Frequently Asked Questions

When do I need to act?

It's time to act now, Driver CPC for PCV started from 10th September 2008 and LGV started from 10th September 2009.

If I hold both a PCV and LGV licence; will I need to undertake two sets of periodic training?

No, only one set of periodic training needs to be completed every five years.

Is the training practical or theory?

The courses can be either Practical or Theory or they can be a combination of both, but looking at the cost of each course you can allow up to 20 drivers on a Theory session. However, we recommend that the optimum number of delegates should be 10. But on-road will be restricted to either 1:1 or 1:2 drivers.

Do I need a separate Driver CPC card or will my current driving licence be updated?

After completing your 35 hours of Driver CPC Training you will be issued a separate Driver CPC card know as a Drivers Qualification Card.

Do I need to keep a log of my training?

All training records will be kept on the DSA computer, but as the Driver it will be worth keeping your own records on the training you have received and the training you required to complete your 35 hour Driver CPC training.

Is Driver CPC training transferable to other employers?

Driver CPC training is for the driver and is attached to their Driving Licence, so if you change your employment it will have to be produced for your new employer.

Who is responsible for ensuring I get trained? Me or my employer?

Driver CPC is the responsibility of the driver to make sure they complete the hours required to keep their Driver CPC up to date.
